FratRap. Awwww Yeah.

To be completely honest, this blog is really for my personal use.  I haven't told anyone that I have it yet so no one really reads it. Someday, on the other hand, I hope word does get around and people learn to check it out for music updates and opinions on music.

TOPIC TODAY: FRATRAP

What is FratRap you ask? Well, it is hip hop that is directly aimed at college students or done by college artists.  Before Mac Miller and Sam Adams went all mainstream (yeeeuck but good for them), they were considered frat rap or college hip hop.  Other artists of this specific genre are:

Chris Webby

XV

IanJ

The Dean's List

For some of you, the whole partying & college life might be a little outdated.  Coming from a college kid (myself), I can say that these four are great examples of the college lifestyle.  They represent the fun and freedom of a college kid.  They stand for being young.  In a way, they help to relieve the stress that college does bring.  Now I'm not saying that the older crowd and younger generations can't listen because anybody can.  They have some good anthem songs and despite the common hip hop element of drugs and drinking, they simply represent being young ("Fuck It I'm Young" by The Dean's List).

Don't get it wrong.  I'm not saying that these artists are above all cause they aren't and I'm sure they know that but they try their best.  XV, Chris Webby, and Sonny Shotz (lead from The Dean's List) are good lyricists on top of having sick flows.

POINT BEING:
FratRap isn't an outstanding "genre".  Hell, it isn't really even a genre (hence the quotations. haha.) but it's good for what we're given in college.  After listening to them, which I recommend you do in your spare time, you'll agree that they are in it simply for the music.  Many people agree that music isn't what it used to be and I understand at the ripe ol' age of 20, I don't exactly have a lot to say with that, but I know others agree with me on that.  Hip hop became a genre about money and fame.  These guys are just messing around and having fun.  Just another reason why FratRap is the way to go :)
